A quantum mechanical study of the vibrational relaxation in the collis
ions of NO+ with He is reported. An ab initio potential energy surface
has been computed using the coupled cluster singles-doubles approxima
tion. Vibration relaxation cross-sections have been calculated on this
surface by using the centrifugal sudden approximation. The correspond
ing vibration relaxation rate coefficients are obtained for the temper
ature range 100-1000 K. A comparison of the theoretical and experiment
al results is discussed.
