This paper describes the implementation of two self-tuning control alg
orithms for the speed control of a permanent magnet dc motor. The algo
rithms minimize a cost function incorporating system input, output, an
d set-point variation for reference tracking. Variable forgetting fact
or using data normalization with constant trace has been utilized. Sel
f-tuning controllers have been implemented using a single-chip digital
signal processor (DSP). It results in reduction of system hardware, c
ost, and calculation time.
