A new adaptive controller based on a neural network for obtaining cons
tant turning force under varying cutting conditions is presented in th
e paper. The adaptive force controller with on-line learning abilities
can modify its performance in response to the changes of cutting cond
itions- As a result, feed rate is automatically adjusted in turning op
erations to maintain a desired cutting force level for improving produ
ctivity.
