Abstract
The present review deals with the possibilities of water purification by UV-light, solar energy in combination with catalysts (e.g. n-TiO2), as well as by using ionizing radiation (e.g. high energy electrons or gamma-rays). The various methods are illustrated by typical examples concerning the degradation of aliphatic and aromatic halogenated pollu tants in water. Some probable reaction mechanisms initiated by light o r ionizing radiation are also given.
