Ak. Saha et al., KINETICS OF ABSORPTION OF CO2 INTO AQUEOUS-SOLUTIONS OF 2-AMINO-2-METHYL-1-PROPANOL, Chemical Engineering Science, 50(22), 1995, pp. 3587-3598
The mechanism and kinetics of the reaction between CO2 and aqueous sol
ution of sterically hindered amine, 2-amino-2-methyl-1-propanol (AMP),
were investigated at 294-318 K by gas absorption studies using a wett
ed wall column. The reaction was found to be first order with respect
to both CO2 and AMP. The values of the second order rate constant were
found to be 439, 687, 1179 and 1650 m(3)/(kmols) at 294, 301.5, 311.5
and 318 K, respectively, in the amine concentration range 0.5-2.0 kmo
l/m(3). These results agree closely with those of Alper (1990, Ind. En
gng Chem. Res. 29, 1725-1728), who adopted a completely different meth
odology, the stopped flow technique, for investigating the kinetics of
CO2-AMP.
