Abstract
The pycnoconidia in about 70 cetrarioid lichen species have been inves tigated. Five main types are recognized: bacillariform, bifusiform, ci triform, filiform and sublageniform pycnoconidia. The largest morpholo gical variation is found within the bifusiform and citriform types. Th e variation and presence of different types within cetrarioid lichens are described and discussed.
