Abstract
Infrared spectroscopy, due to the advent of FTIR spectrometers has bec ome one of the prominient tools for the molecular characterization and identification. The high sensitivity, quickness of measurements, high precision and extensive data processing capabilities of FTIR have eno rmously increased the scope of this technique in the area of molecular spectroscopy as well as in quantitative trace analysis. This article presents an overview of the state of art application of FTIR and photo thermal spectroscopy in the area of petrochemical research. Applicatio ns of FTIR and the hyphenated techniques have been discussed briefly w ith some specific examples in the field of petrochemical research.
