Abstract
Cyclic overloading is shown to affect cumulative damage at the stage o f fatigue crack generation. Cumulative damage is observed to decrease sharply if the applied stress is higher than the endurance limit of th e material. In test runs conducted with the load stress below this lim it, the overall endurance, measured prior to crack generation, is not affected by fretting.
