Abstract
The thermal Claisen rearrangement of the allyl ether of 5-hydroxy-6,8- diacetyl-2,2-dimethylchroman furnishes a mixture df products which are characterised as 6-acetyl-8-allyl-5-hydroxy-2,2-dimethylchroman (4; 1 0%), and its acetate (3; 20%) by their spectral studies. The correspon ding prenyl and propargyl derivatives under similar conditions are, ho wever, attended by deprenylation or depropargylation giving the phenol ic chroman (1) with no traces of rearranged products.
