NOVEL SYNTHESIS OF SOME NEW FUSED SPIRO HETEROCYCLIC-COMPOUNDS AND THEIR BIOLOGICAL-ACTIVITY

A series of fused and spiro pyrazolones, isoxazolines, pyrimidines, p- lactams, and thiazolidinones incorporating 2-cyanomethylbenzimidazoles (4a-c,-8a-c, 10a-c and 11a-c) have been synthesised by cyclocondensat ion addition reaction and cycloaddition reaction of hydrazines, hydrox ylamine, urea, thiourea, monochloroacetyl chloride and mercaptoacetic acid with the prepared 4-aryl-5-cyano-3,4,4a,-5-tetrahydropyrimido [5' ,4':4,5] pyrrolo [1,2-a] benzimidazole-2 (H)-thiones (8a-c) and 2-aryl imino-3-cyano-2,3-dihydropyrrolo [1,2-a] benzimidazol-1 (H)-ones (9a-c ). The compounds have been tested against some bacterial and fungal st rains.
