Abstract
A model of the interaction of thermal atoms and ions with metal surfac es is presented. The model is based on the multi-particle density func tional method. This method is applied to describe first the properties of the electron gas on the metal surface and second to analyze the ef fective potential of the Hydrogenium atom in the vicinity of the metal surface.
