The electronic properties of single twin boundaries in lead sulfide, a
nd of superlattices based upon them, are calculated and discussed. Sub
stantial differences are noted from a similar study based on zinc-blen
de-type semiconductors. It is found that such superlattices can have e
ither wider or narrower band gaps than the homogeneous material.
