Abstract
Systematic estimates of the losses of essential soil nutrients and of the degree of loosening of soils during the spring snowmelt period are presented, along with maps showing lateral variations in the prominen ce of erosional (and associated accumulative) processes and loss of or ganic matter and mineral nutrients. The mean annual losses of organic matter and mineral nutrients in the main natural zones of the central and southern Russian Plain are calculated.
