Viscosities of the polar molecule, dichloromethane in mixtures with no
npolar solvents cyclohexane, benzene, p-xylene and mesitylene have bee
n measured at two different temperatures 293.15 K and 303.15 K. The vi
scosities of binary liquid mixtures prepared with cyclohexane show app
reciable negative deviation from rectilinear dependence on mole fracti
on of dichloromethane. This deviation decreases in the case of benzene
and p-xylene and becomes positive for the binary mixture with mesityl
ene. The deviation is positive even for the binary mixture with p-xyle
ne at 303.15 K. An attempt has been made to correlate the deviation of
viscosity from the rectilinear dependence, the parameters d of Grunbe
rg-Nissan equation and C of Hind-McLaughlin-Ubbelohde equation and the
interchange energy W-visc with the degree of interaction. It is chang
e energy It is found that the value of C is more consistent than the v
alue of d.
