Abstract
The purpose of this article is to describe within a multi-faceted psyc hodynamic approach the effect of race in an African American patient p opulation. The patients discussed herein are primarily middle class an d were seen in psychoanalytic psychotherapy. I utilize Pine's (1990) r ecent clinical synthesis describing the four psychologies currently us ed in psychanalytic theory construction and treatment.
