Abstract
To fulfill requirements of extraordinary heavy steel plate specificati ons a new production strategy of the TMCP process - the two stage cool ing - has been developed and brought into application at Dillinger Hut tenwerke GTS. In this process not only final ACC after TM-rolling but also intermediate cooling (IC) before the final rolling stage is appli ed, using the existing ACC devices. The two stage cooling (IC+ACC) eff ects rolling efficiency, microstructure and mechanical properties of h eavy plates. The homogeneity and the grain refinement produced by the IC+ACC process are responsible for the improvement of the mechanical p roperties.
