Most commuter trains in large cities of Japan are loaded to their full
capacity in the morning rush hour. Consequently, it takes time for ma
ny passengers to get on and off at major stations, and the trains are
often delayed. Although the construction and performance of commuter t
rain doors is considered to have a great influence on the ease of gett
ing on and off, a method for quantitatively evaluating the relationshi
p between them has not yet been established. The authors proposed a ne
w method for evaluating the above relationship, and obtained a satisfa
ctory result in practical application of the method.
