The influence of the ion temperature and the electron drift velocity o
n the adiabatic growth of small amplitude generalized electron holes i
s studied. Growth rates as a function of the drift velocity are calcul
ated for various ratios of the temperatures and the masses. A destabil
izing effect is found when both the mass ratio delta = m(e)/m(i) and t
he temperature ratio theta = T-c/T-i increase.
