Amanita phalloides-poisoning has still a high mortality particularly i
n children, Concerning the individual prognosis the amount of fungi in
gested seems to be the decisive factor. Compared to this the selection
from the wide range of possible therapeutic measures, their combinati
on and realization are of secondary importance, For this reason it is
mandatory that the therapeutic measures chosen are effective and do no
t themselves seriously stress the organism of the patient. Therefore,
hemodialysis and hemoperfusion cannot be fully recommended any longer,
On the other hand liver transplantation should be planned early in ot
herwise lethal cases. A complete recovery after survival of the acute
phase is not a matter of course: histologic changes as in chronic acti
ve hepatitis are possible, The therapeutic measures considered most us
eful are described in the cases of two children with Amanita phalloide
s-poisoning who survived without transplantation.
