We provide a conceptual model of a reconfigurable parallel system in a
multicomputer environment. We develop strategies for scheduling tasks
in such systems a,td provide simulation results for implementing thes
e strategies under various different theoretical situations. Experimen
tation demonstrates that switching can greatly improve system performa
nce, Furthermore, there exist situations where the system is balanced
when switching is used, but when switching is not used, the task queue
grows indefinitely. Additionally: rye present an analytical model of
tire system behaviour and use this model to generate and implement ver
y simple but effective switching rules.
