Abstract
A light-emitting diode-based photobioreactor (LED-based PER) operated in a continuous perfusion mode with a perfusion rate of 3 to 6 reactor volumes a day supports high-density algal cultures, of cell concentra tions up to 4-10(9) cells/mL, or 25 g/L. The oxygen production rate at its peak was 13 to 15 mmol/(L . h). Continuous medium perfusion allow ed for longterm stable oxygen production, while oxygen production in b atch mode ceased when stationary phase was reached.
