K. Gromyszkalkowska et M. Grochowska, OXYGEN-CONSUMPTION BY LIPARA-PULLITARSIS DOSK ET CHV (DIPTERA, CHLOROPIDAE) DURING DEVELOPMENT, Comparative biochemistry and physiology. Part A, Physiology, 115(4), 1996, pp. 329-333
1. Each period in the life cycle of Lipara pullitarsis exhibits a char
acteristic mean value of oxygen uptake. 2. The differences in the meta
bolism of L(3) larvae are the result of the consumption of different k
inds of food, including living and dead tissues, the ambient temperatu
re and different nutritional and motor activity 3. Males in larval, pr
epupal and pupal stages, on account of smaller body weight, exhibit a
slightly higher respiratory metabolism compared with that of females.
4. The significantly higher requirement for oxygen by young mature mal
es is the result of lower body weight and more intensive motor activit
y than that of the females. Copyright (C) 1996 Elsevier Science Inc.
