This paper provides an efficient algorithm for extending the earlier w
ork on the application of the reduction and restoration technique of s
ingle-phase systems to three-phase network formulation based on the ph
ase-coordinate Gauss-Seidel load flow algorithm. This technique requir
es the nodal admittance matrix to be reduced to an equivalent and more
compact submatrix. The paper gives performance comparisons between th
e conventional phase-coordinate Gauss-Seidel algorithm and the improve
d method mentioned above which indicate significant improvements. The
new improved algorithm is found to be fast, efficient, reliable, and a
ble to provide solutions for ill-conditioned systems.
