M. Mourad et al., DRYING OF CORN IN A FLOTATION FLUIDIZED-B ED .1. EXPERIMENTAL-STUDY ON THE KINETICS OF DRYING, Chemical engineering journal and the biochemical engineering journal, 59(3), 1995, pp. 221-228
This part of the paper is devoted to an experimental study on the effe
ct of different parameters, i.e. air velocity, harvest year, initial m
oisture content, mass of the corn to be dried and air temperature, on
the drying rate and the change in density and size of yellow dent corn
particles. The experiments have been performed in a flotation fluidiz
ed bed. It is shown that the harvest year for the same variety of kern
els and the hot air flow rate do not affect the drying kinetics. An in
crease in the temperature from 50 to 130 degrees C reduces the drying
time by up to 75%. A high initial moisture content also leads to a hig
h drying rate and to significant decreases in the density and the size
of the kernels.
