Both the elastoplastic constitutive equations and the frictional conta
ct conditions are described as a kind of linear complementarity condit
ion. Then based on the principle of virtual work and the finite elemen
t discretization, a mathematical programming method is obtained for th
e solution of elastoplastic contact problems with friction. This work
is an extension of our previous work on the elastic contact problem (Z
hu and Jin, Comput. Struct. 52, pp. 149-155 (1994)) and elastoplastici
ty problem (Zhu and Jin, Appl. Math. Mech. 14, pp. 635-642 (1993)). Tw
o examples are chosen to illustrate the applicability of the method.
