Abstract
Synthesis and characterization of a new, highly fluorescent label, 4-a cetylamino-1,8-naphthalimide-N-caproic acid (6) have been described. T he synthesis of this molecule has been effected starting from acenapht hene, a non-fluorescent starting compound, through a series of chemica l reactions.
