Abstract
More than 250 Providencia strains isolated from the urine of instituti onalized elderly patients were tested against cefaclor, cefuroxime, ce fetamet, cefpodoxime, ciprofloxacin, and amoxicillin-clavulanic acid. Our results confirm the strong activities of expanded-spectrum oral ce phalosporins against Providencia isolates, as well as the marked diffe rences in susceptibilities among accurately identified Providencia spe cies.
