The effects of underpotentially deposited Pb on the oxidation of sodiu
m lactate at a Pt electrode was studied by recording cyclic voltammogr
ams. The activity of the modified electrode towards the electro-oxidat
ion of sodium lactate in alkaline solution was found to be higher than
that of bulk platinum. A deactivation of the electrocatalyst was obse
rved when the pyruvate concentration was high, suggesting its preferen
tial adsorption on the catalyst.
