Abstract
To estimate premorbid intelligence, two methods have been proposed, th e first using << Hold Tests >> such as Vocabulary (BABCOCK) or a combi nation of subtests (Weschler Deterioration Index), the second a regres sion equation based on the demographic characteristics of the subject (WILSON ; BARONA). Such an equation was derived from the standardisati on data of the French version of the WAIS-R and validated on a group o f patients with intellectual deficits of organic cerebral origin and o n a control group of normal subjects. The results are compared with th ose obtained by EPPINGER in his validation study of the American Baron a Index. The Wechsler Deterioration Index was also computed in the two French groups of subjects and its clinical diagnostic value compared with the value of the Barona Index.
