Abstract
We present data that are consistent with photon-assisted transport in a mesoscopic device through quantized energy states that result from l ateral confinement. Two parallel gates that are orthogonal to the curr ent how were used to quantize a two-dimensional electron gas in a modu lation-doped AlxGa1-xAs-GaAs heterostructure with a quantization energ y similar to 1 meV. Photons with energies 0.37 and 1.1 meV were antenn a coupled to the drain and source. The photoinduced current plotted as a function of the drain-source voltage exhibits distinctly frequency- dependent features that agree with a theoretical model based on photon -assisted transport.
