L. Malfroy et al., POLYMORPHIC TRINUCLEOTIDE AND TETRANUCLEOTIDE REPEATS IN EXON-1 AND EXON-8 OF THE MYELIN OLIGODENDROCYTE GLYCOPROTEIN (MOG) GENE, Human genetics, 96(6), 1995, pp. 737-738
Polymorphic (CTC)n and (TAAA)n sequences were identified in exons 1 an
d 8 of the myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG) gene. The differe
nt alleles were detected by a method combining fluorescence labeling o
f polymerase chain reaction (PCR) products and use of an automated DNA
sequencer. Although only two alleles differing by the number of leuci
ne residues encoded by the (CTC)n array were detected at the first loc
us, seven alleles were identified at the second. The high degree of po
lymorphism (75%) of the tetranucleotide repeat makes this marker infor
mative for association or linkage studies with diseases such as hemoch
romatosis or multiple sclerosis.
