Abstract
Purpose: Deep vein thrombosis is a complication in surgical patients w ith a potential for disastrous results. This article discusses the pat hogenesis, prevention, and treatment of this condition. Conclusion: Su rgeons should be acutely aware of the potential development of deep ve in thrombosis and should take prophylactic measures to prevent this pr oblem as part of their surgical routine.
