Potassium-graphite (C8K) reduces phenyltrichlorosilane to give polyphe
nylsilynes in high yields. Branched copolysilanes have been prepared v
ia reductive coupling of phenyltrichlorosilane and diorganodichlorosil
anes with C8K. Polymers of this type are also obtained by reductive co
upling of triflate substituted polysilanes with C8K. The soluble polym
ers and copolymers with molecular weights in the range approximate to
4000 to 10000 have been characterized by Si-29-NMR spectroscopy.
