K. Kashiyama et al., 3-STEP EXPLICIT FINITE-ELEMENT COMPUTATION OF SHALLOW-WATER FLOWS ON A MASSIVELY-PARALLEL COMPUTER, International journal for numerical methods in fluids, 21(10), 1995, pp. 885-900
Massively parallel finite element strategies for large-scale computati
ons of shallow water flows and contaminant transport are presented. Th
e finite element discretizations, carried out on unstructured grids, a
re based on a three-step explicit formulation both for the shallow wat
er equations and for the advection-diffusion equation governing the co
ntaminant transport. Parallel implementations of these unstructured-gr
id-based formulations are carried out on the Army High Performance Com
puting Research Center Connection Machine CM-5. It is demonstrated wit
h numerical examples that the strategies presented are applicable to l
arge-scale computations of various shallow water flow problems.
