Abstract
Dog erythrocyte antigens (DEA) are responsible for initiating 70% to 8 0% of the immune-mediated transfusion reactions in the canine. More th an 13 blood groups have been described. Six blood types (1.1, 1.2, 3, 4, 5, 7) have transfusion significance. Transfusion should be between typed and crossmatched dogs when possible. Minimally, a ''universal'' donor, DEA 4 only, should be crossmatched with the recipient.
