Local measurements of the free surface frequencies of a mercury cylind
rical layer submitted to a low frequency vertical magnetic field have
been performed using a new resistive probe. The results confirm the li
near analysis which predicts two types of classical transitions (harmo
nic and subharmonic) and a specific electromagnetic transition occurri
ng with a combination of frequencies.
