A. Hourvitz et al., INDUCED CARDIOVERSION OF FETAL FLUTTER BY ARTIFICIAL RUPTURE OF MEMBRANES AT TERM, Journal of perinatal medicine, 23(5), 1995, pp. 403-407
A term fetus with atrial flutter and no signs of cardiac decompensatio
n is described. A trial of pharmacologic cardioversion was unsuccessfu
l, and induction of labor was initiated. Immediately after artificial
rupture of the membranes, spontaneous conversion to normal sinus rhyth
m occurred. The possible mechanism of the cardioverion and the optiona
l treatments for the term fetus with atrial flutter are discussed.
