The fluorescence spectra were recorded in he range lambda = 1.0 - 1.5
mu m for a number of dyes embedded in solid-state matrices based on pe
rchlorovinyl, and on cellulose diacetate and triacetate. The quantum e
fficiency of these dyes was compared with that of the traditional solu
tions. The results demonstrated the promise of the new materials as ac
tive media for tunable near-infrared lasers.
