Piezoelectric tuning of the emission frequency of a monolithic ring YA
G:Nd3+ laser with a nonplanar cavity was achieved. The maximum tuning
range was 2.3 GHz when the ray-contour perimeter was 30 mm. Under cond
itions of resonant modulation of mechanical stresses the rate of tunin
g could reach 35 MHz/V. Qualitative estimates were obtained of the con
tributions made to the change in the YAG:Nd3+ emission frequency by th
e deformation of the ray contour and by the photoelasticity effect whe
n the YAG:Nd3+ crystal was mechanically stressed.
