A 10-year-old Jack Russell terrier was presented with a bleeding mass
over the left scapula. A cutaneous hemangiosarcoma with a localized co
nsumptive coagulopathy was diagnosed on the basis of thrombocytopenia,
prolonged activated partial thromboplastin and prothrombin times, hyp
ofibrinogenemia, absence of fibrin(ogen) degradation products, and thr
ombi associated exclusively with the neoplasm. Comparison of localized
and disseminated intravascular coagulation is detailed.
