We show that the interlayer tunneling mechanism of high temperature su
perconductivity has a novel consequence, viz., a gap anisotropy that i
s strongly temperature dependent. In particular, the superconducting g
ap along the (0, pi) direction shows a weaker temperature dependence t
han the gap along the (pi, pi) direction which decreases rapidly with
temperature. This can be verified, for instance, by ARPES experiments
and we suggest this feature may have already been observed.
