Abstract
The increasing number of immunocompromised patients led to a marked ga in in the number of candida infections in the last years. While candid a arthritis is particularly known after major joint surgery or metasta tic in severely immuno-compromised patients, a healthy young man is pr esented in this paper, with a candida gonarthritis after a minor, intr aarticularly penetrating stab wound. The furnish evidence of the diagn osis, the repeated proof of candida in the synovial fluid is mandatory owing to the lack of other specific tests. The successful treatment c onsisted in the repeated arthroscopic debridement and irrigation in co mbination with an intravenous fungostatic therapy with Amphotericin-B/ 5-Flucytosin, followed by a one year Fluconazol prophylaxis.
