Abstract
The presence of a novel member of serine proteinase inhibitor, B-43, w as immunohistochemically indicated in both neurons and astrocytes in t he parietal region of the bovine brain. B-43-like immunoreactivity was detected in pyramidal cells in the cortex and GFAP-positive astroglia l cells in the white matter. The processes of B-43-like immunoreactive astrocytes were observed to extend to the vascular wall, forming the endfeet-like structures. B-43 may play a cooperative role with glia-de rived nexin/protease nexin-1 and alpha(1)-antichymotrypsin in the brai n.
