We consider the transmission of a periodic signal by noisy threshold d
evices. A general expression for the input-output characteristic is de
veloped and applied to two particular threshold devices. It is shown t
hat the amplitude of the signal output shows in the subthreshold regim
e a maximum as a function of the noise strength - the fingerprint of s
tochastic resonance.
