We present here the registration of pseudo-surface modes, PSMs, propag
ating on MF2/GaAs(111) heterostructures (M = Ca, Sr), by means of Bril
louin spectroscopy. The observed propagation of PSMs can be reasonably
accounted for in terms of the simple theory of elasticity. Neverthele
ss, a lowering of 3-7% of the velocity values of the PSMs is detected
in the case of leaky modes with relatively strong leakage. The observe
d deviations of the velocity of the PSMs are then thought to be connec
ted with the presence of a region of roughness of the fluoride/GaAs(11
1) interface extending for several nanometres.
