Abstract
The possibilities of fabricating integrated optical components on an I nP substrate are demonstrated by a number of devices that have been ma de in recent years. These components can have a major impact on evolvi ng communication networks by facilitating new techniques for increasin g capacity such as wavelength division multiplexing and soliton transm ission.
