Ap. Lisitzin et Gs. Kharin, ICEBERG-SCATTERED COARSE-GRAINED MATERIAL IN THE NORTH-ATLANTIC AND ON THE KING TROUGH BOTTOM (OBSERVATIONS FROM MIR SUBMERSIBLES), Okeanologia, 35(5), 1995, pp. 743-754
The observations from MIR deep-water submersibles, drag sampling, deep
-sea drilling and other data indicate a wide occurrence of glacial (er
ratic) coarse-grained rock material on the North Atlantic bottom the c
omposition of which differs considerably from the composition of the o
cean basement rocks but which is still often thought to be on outcropp
ing material. The paper generalizes the new data on the erratic materi
al which was collected in the 19th cruise of the R/V ''Academic Mstisl
av Keldysh'' and in marine expeditions of other vessels. Data are pres
ented on the quantitative distribution, composition, provinces and sca
ttering of erratic material from its sources by glaciers and icebergs.
