W. Ruijgrok et al., DRY DEPOSITION OF PARTICLES - IMPLICATIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS FOR MAPPING OF DEPOSITION OVER EUROPE, Tellus. Series B, Chemical and physical meteorology, 47(5), 1995, pp. 587-601
This paper assesses current knowledge about the dry deposition of part
icles with a locus on implications for Europe. General aspects of sour
ces, physical characteristics and concentration data of particles in t
he atmosphere are considered. Current modelling approaches For calcula
ting the dry deposition of small and coarse particles are reviewed. Sh
ortcomings and uncertainties of these models are presented. Measuremen
ts of small- and large-particle deposition with various techniques are
summarized together with their limitations. Finally, implications of
scale aspects of particle dry deposition are treated with an emphasis
on Europe, The overall conclusion is that knowledge on particle dry de
position is still insufficient, both experimentally and theoretically,
undermining reliable estimates of deposition fluxes over Europe.
