Abstract
Previous studies showed that bacteraemia occurs in shocked dogs and ra ts. The present study shows that it also occurs in shocked patients an d that Gram-positive bacteria, especially staphylococci, feature promi nently, Gram-positive bacteraemia may constitute an important link bet ween shock and sepsis. Antibiotic prophylaxis covering Gram-positive b acteria is suggested for patients with severe shock.
