Kc. Bewick et al., METACOGNITION AS THE ULTIMATE EXECUTIVE - TECHNIQUES AND TASKS TO FACILITATE EXECUTIVE FUNCTIONS, NeuroRehabilitation, 5(4), 1995, pp. 367-375
It has been well-documented that executive function deficits are a com
mon consequence of brain injury. Metacognitive processes, in close all
iance with executive functions, are viewed as integral components of l
earning and awareness. Combining all of these areas may be necessary t
o achieve a beneficial treatment plan for improving executive function
s. This article provides a definitional analysis of executive function
s and metacognitive processes and it discusses the role of learning, i
nternal mediation, and strategy development. A specific executive func
tions program is described and suggested as a framework for establishi
ng a metacognitive-learning routine.
